Knit Together | A Lenten Preparation
The season of Lent, much like Advent, is a time when the church around the world enters a season of preparation. During this particular season, we begin to focus on life and death of Jesus as we wait to gather on Good Friday. A common practice is to spend time repenting and focusing inward on our own sin and how we have fallen short of the glory of God. Often times this can be a deeply depressing season as we contemplate the many ways in which we fail to do what the Lord commands of us. This has been our approach to Lent over the past three years in which we have been observing a Lenten series as a church.
However, we are also anticipating the greatest news in the history of the world - the Tomb is empty! We were left with a job of going out and telling the world about this Risen Savior. In light of this lenten season, and the Resurrection, we will be preparing a little differently than we have in years past. This year we will be focusing on what it means to be “Knit Together”.
“For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicean and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” - Colossians 2:1-3
One of the things the Apostle Paul encourages the church at Colossae is to be “knit together in love”. Over the next seven weeks, we will be examining what it will look like for Missio Dei Church to be knit together as brothers and sisters in Christ as we prepare to go out and share the Good News of our Risen Savior and look forward to celebrating on Resurrection Sunday.
The format for this time together will also look a little bit different than in years past. We will still be gathering for a meal before we enter a time of worship and study. However, in stead sitting through “another sermon” we will be reading from some of the “one another” statements used throughout Scripture. We will spend some time learning about what the passage means and then spending time trying to flesh out how that applies to our lives and impacts our proclamation of the Gospel message to our family, friends, neighbors, and beyond.
Over the seven weeks here is what we will be walking through as we are knit together:
