How To Invite People to VBS

Over the next few weeks leading up to our first Vacation Bible School, I hope to share with you some how to’s that may be helpful for you and your family. This week we will be exploring an answer to the question “How do I invite my neighbor to VBS?” Let me present you with six options that I think would be helpful. Feel free to use one, all, or something I have not thought of! These ideas are not in any particular order.

  1. Cheap Date Night
This may be my favorite and most effective. Amanda and I do not have kids, but we do understand the impact of a good “date night” can play on our marriage. Explain to your neighbors/friends that for $10.00 a child, they can have date night for 5 nights. Share with them that the following restaurants are within an appropriate driving distance for a date night:

    Ranch Frosties
    Tribes Ale House
    Panera
    Charleston's
    Anything in the Frankfort area....

From my understanding, finding childcare for $2.00 a night per child is hard to beat! Maybe this will work for your neighbor or friend.

  2. Chauffeur Their Kids
This idea couples well with the date night idea - offer to take their kids for them at least one night, if not all nights. Are you leaving from essentially the same area? Maybe your neighbor or friend is not looking forward to the drive or it would be tight to get the kids here in time. Reach out to them and offer to take their kids to VBS for them. This could go a long way for some people.

  3. Pay Their Way
How is your budget? I am sure we can all find a little extra room in our budgets to pay for a neighbors kids to come to VBS. Now they really have no excuse to not send their kids. By all means I would not lead with this idea, as it can come off a little strong for some people. However, this could speak large volumes to how important this is for you and for your kids, that your neighbors and friends may have to think twice about VBS.

  4. Email The Registration Link
Simply forward this link (www.mdchurch.us/vbs) to them in a personalized email. This is slightly more informal, but for the neighbors or friends that you may not have the closest relationship with.

  5. Deliver Post-Card
In the coming weeks we will have post cards available with all the needed information for you to personally hand people as your are having your VBS conversations. Often times, putting something in someones hand helps them to remember better. In a world where we are so computer and tv driven, a post card is a nice way to catch people’s eyes.

  6. Let the Kids do the Talking
Get your kids excited about VBS. If they are excited about something, kids will then want to invite “their people” to the same thing. Explain to your kids the importance of learning about the Bible during this time and the various fun things we will be learning. For more information about our theme, click here.
