Scandalous Grace in the Tree | Bathsheba

December 18, 2016 Speaker: Paul Vroom Series: Advent 2016: Scandal in the Tree

Topic: Advent Passage: 1 Chronicles 3:1–3:24

We all have skeletons in our closets! In our ancestry there are people and moments we would be glad to forget. In the family line of Jesus Christ, a number of these “misfits” are actually highlighted and recorded for all the world to see. The genealogy of Jesus is a big reminder that God is glad to turn human scandal into beauty and joy… and he still does it today!

"With such a list, Matthew gives us a clue about the kind of people that the Messiah came to save. He is to be a Saviour for women and men who were both saints and sinners, Jews and Gentiles. This genealogy is truly comprehensive. Many can look at the stories of the women and men and find some reflection of themselves.” Ken Bailey (Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes: Cultural Studies in the Gospels)
