MDC is Making a Difference for ME!
1 Corinthians 2:2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified...
This verse has been heavy on my heart over the past few weeks.
My husband and I moved to the Mokena/Frankfort area in June of this year. We have been married two and a half years and within those years, we have moved three times. Neither of us are from this area originally, but we have enjoyed this move a great deal.
These first few years of our marriage have been a wonderful time for us. However, I especially have had some very lonely times. The first move right before we got married was a move from Philadelphia to Peoria, IL. We left our church, friends, and places that we had come to know together in Philadelphia. We also moved an additional time from Peoria to Springfield, IL. Then we moved up here to this area.
I only give this brief background to illustrate how hard it has been to maintain friendships (or even find friends) within these last few years. We heard about Missio Dei very much by chance and had to make a decision about whether we felt called to be a part of its launch team ministry within one week. Jon and I operate well under short time restrictions and felt this was very much where we needed to be almost immediately.
Jon and I have a strict theological background and both have a great deal of “head knowledge” about our faith. Missio Dei has been a place of passion that attentively works to cultivate our relationship with the Lord. It has been a wonderful place for me to be. We have made friendships and felt accepted for the first time in a while. These are all wonderful things that cause me to praise God often, but this is not all I wanted to say.
Missio Dei in its worship, in its mission, in its desire has caused me to want to study more of God's word than I have had the desire in a while. Missio Dei really strives to seek the Lord and make Him the one and only focus. This attitude and ambition has helped me so much. This verse at the beginning of this essay has been one I have heard in many places recently. In my conversations with people who know Jesus Christ as their Savior and those that don't, this verse has been on the forefront of my mind. I find great comfort in these words.
