Is there any thing I can do?

"So, why is a church like Missio Dei Church necessary?," was a question I was asked a couple weeks ago by a friend as we were talking about MDC. He pointed out that there are other good evangelical churches in our area. Why would we need to start up another church in the Lincoln-way area? Well, there are three statistics that never cease to wake me up:

  • According to Dave Olson, Director of Church Planting for the Evangelical Covenant Church, only 19.5% of people in Will County are found at a worship service on any given Sunday.
  • Overall church attendance is virtually unchanged from 15 years ago, even though the United States population has grown by 52 million people – mostly unchurched.
  • A study conducted by Interest Ministries and reported in Christianity Today found that the typical evangelical church over fifteen years of age could expect three conversions per 100 people in attendance per year. Churches under three years of age win an average of ten people to Christ per 100 people in attendance per year.

Missio Dei Church is about creating a new and different church experience for the unchurched and the disenfranchised. It's a place to get away from routine, learn something new, gain friendships, and celebrate God working in our lives.

We (Missio Dei Church) have been blessed with a great base of support from our mother church and various levels of the denomination. This fledgling church is gaining strength, but it hasn't been without the help of a lot of people who have been supporting us in a wide variety of ways. However, I am constantly asked by people who may not be joining MDC, but have a heart for the lost in our area, "Is there anything that I can do for you?"

If this is you, here are some ways that you can invest in the future of Missio Dei Church:

Prayer:

Prayer is probably the greatest thing that we need. As we get closer and closer to our launch date, we know that Satan would love to distract us any way possible. Please pass this email on to other people who would be willing to pray for Missio Dei!

Your time:

Maybe you would be willing to help out by giving Missio Dei Church your time. We will need a number of people to act as scaffolding as we are getting on our feet. You can give of your time in the Children’s Ministry, helping set up on Sunday mornings, or come and join us in worship to add momentum to our worship services. Let know if any of these interest you in the slightest.

Your gifts:

Some people love to give towards some thing tangible that they can touch and see. Here are some ideas:

  • Bibles: We are looking for people who would like to donate cases of 48 Bibles for people who don’t have one to use. If this interests you, let Paul know. Here is what they will look like!
  • Laptop Computer: Currently we have two laptop computers: one for the worship ministry and one for Paul. The one for Paul serves multiple purposes (financial and Paul's day to day work). If you would like to give towards a laptop or have a high quality (non-stone age) laptop, let us know!
  • Baby Shower: Also, we will be having a "Baby Shower" for MDC. This will be a great opportunity to give some much needed gifts (markers, diapers, wipes, toys for the nursery, pack and plays, nursery gates, etc.) to the church. We will send out more information with that in our next email update!

Invitations:

It is our prayer that Missio Dei Church will reach the unchurched and the disenfranchised. Our worship and teaching style and desire to reach reach people for Christ in new and innovative ways could be just what you, your neighbor, family member, co-worker, have been looking for. We are looking for YOU to help us with the inviting!

Financially:

As always, your financial support is always welcome. If you would like to contribute online using your credit card, please send the following information and we will set you up: First and last name, home address, phone number, and email address.
